Curly hair: care without frizz

Curly hair is more often dry, frizzy and tangled than straight hair. It is not “unruly”: on the bends of a curl the strand is less protected, and less scalp sebum reaches the ends. So curls need regular hydrating care, the right detangling and gentle drying.

Why curls get dry and frizzy

On every bend of a curl the strand’s surface opens slightly, so it loses moisture faster. Sebum, which naturally protects hair, spreads less easily along curly lengths, so the ends dry out first. Add mechanics: curls catch on each other, and rough combing makes them frizzier.

Cosmetic care does not change your hair type, but it helps curls stay soft, shiny, less frizzy and better defined.

Which system to choose

  • Natural curls, not coloured, normal scalp — Intensive Care + BioHydra Therapy: the light balsam with argan oil doesn’t weigh the curl down, and BioHydra with hyaluronic acid gives curls moisture.
  • Porous, coloured or very dry curls — Intensive Care + Lipid & Protein Therapy, or Reconstruction PRO when dryness is pronounced: the lipids and keratin in Lipid & Protein suit porous lengths; Reconstruction PRO with murumuru butter is the richer option.
  • Curls plus a sensitive scalp, or a wish to wash sulfate-free — Soft Care + a mask: the sulfate-free shampoo with niacinamide cleanses as gently as possible.

Balance moisture and nourishment: alternate masks

Curls need balance: a rich protein mask alone can make the curl stiffer, a hydrating one alone too soft and undefined. For porous curls, alternating in different washes works well: Lipid & Protein Therapy once every 7–10 days, BioHydra Therapy in between. Only one mask per wash.

How to detangle curls

  • never comb dry curls — only with balsam on;
  • start at the ends and work your way up;
  • use fingers or a wide-tooth comb, not a paddle brush;
  • after rinsing out the balsam, don’t comb again — just shape sections with your hands.

Habits that protect curls

  • a silk or satin pillowcase — less friction and morning frizz;
  • a soft spiral hair tie instead of a tight elastic;
  • refresh curls between washes with water from a spray bottle, not by combing;
  • warm, not hot water when washing.

Step by step

  1. 01Shampoo on the scalp; don’t rub the lengths.
  2. 02Mask when needed — from mid-length, 5–10 minutes (BioHydra or Lipid & Protein, following the alternation).
  3. 03Balsam generously along the lengths; detangle with your fingers while it’s on, 2–3 minutes, rinse.
  4. 04Squeeze out water with a soft towel or a cotton T-shirt, without rubbing.
  5. 05Active Thermo Cream on damp lengths before diffusing.
  6. 06Diffuse on moderate heat without moving the curls — or let them air-dry.
  7. 07If needed, one drop of Argan Elixir Oil on dry ends.

Common misconceptions

  • “Curls should be brushed daily” — a dry brush breaks up the curl and adds frizz.
  • “Curly hair doesn’t need balsam — it will be weighed down” — the opposite: curls need balsam after every wash.
  • “The more protein, the better the curls” — balance with hydration is what counts.
  • “A diffuser damages curls” — on moderate heat and with heat protection, a diffuser helps keep their shape.

Frequently asked questions

Which ORO system suits curly hair?
For natural curls — Intensive Care with the BioHydra mask. For porous, coloured or very dry curls — Intensive Care with Lipid & Protein Therapy or Reconstruction PRO. With a sensitive scalp — Soft Care. The most accurate way is the personal match.
How do I reduce frizz in curly hair?
Regular balsam and a mask, detangling only with balsam on, squeezing instead of rubbing, a diffuser with heat protection and less friction at night.
How often should curls get a mask?
BioHydra 1–2 times in 7 days, Lipid & Protein once every 7–10 days. For porous curls it’s convenient to alternate them in different washes.
Can I blow-dry curls?
Better with a diffuser on moderate heat and always with heat protection — curls frizz less and keep their shape better.
