Caring for porous hair

Porous hair absorbs moisture quickly — and loses it just as fast. That is why it frizzes, tangles, reacts to humidity and looks dry even after care. Porosity can be managed: it needs rich, regular care and the right sequence.

What porous hair is

Porosity describes the hair surface. When it is smooth and dense, the strand holds moisture better and reflects light. When the surface is more open and uneven, hair absorbs and loses moisture faster, looks dull, frizzes and tangles. Porosity most often follows bleaching, regular colouring and frequent hot styling — or it is simply a natural trait of the hair.

Cosmetic care does not make hair “non-porous” for good. But it helps bring back smoothness, softness and a cared-for look, and keep them from wash to wash.

How to recognise porous hair

  • it frizzes, especially in humid weather;
  • it dries quickly after washing but looks dry;
  • it tangles and is hard to comb;
  • the lengths look dull, without shine;
  • it “drinks” products — there never seems to be enough balsam.

Which mask to choose

BioHydra Therapy — when porosity is moderate and the lengths lack softness and elasticity: 1–2 times in 7 days.

Lipid & Protein Therapy — when porosity is pronounced and hair is dry, bleached or breaking: once every 7–10 days.

One wash, one mask.

Habits that reduce frizz

  • gently squeeze hair with a towel instead of rubbing;
  • comb from the ends once balsam is on;
  • blow-dry in the direction of growth so the surface lies flatter;
  • don’t go to bed with wet hair;
  • warm, not hot water.

Step by step

  1. 01Shampoo on the scalp: Reconstruction PRO Shampoo; don’t rub the lengths.
  2. 02Mask when needed — on squeezed lengths from mid-length, 5–10 minutes.
  3. 03Balsam after every wash — Reconstruction PRO Balsam for 2–3 minutes: softens, smooths and eases detangling.
  4. 04Heat protection before blow-drying — Active Thermo Cream.
  5. 05Oil after drying — one drop of Argan Elixir Oil on lengths and ends.

Common misconceptions

  • “Porous hair needs oil every day” — oil finishes, but does not replace balsam and mask.
  • “A mask replaces balsam” — no, balsam is needed after a mask.
  • “The more often the mask, the better” — a rich mask used too often can weigh lengths down.
  • “Porosity is forever” — the right regular care noticeably changes how hair looks and feels.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know my hair is porous?
The main signs are frizz in humid weather, dryness and tangling even after care, and dull lengths. The most accurate way is the personal match.
Which mask is best for porous hair?
BioHydra Therapy for moderate porosity; Lipid & Protein Therapy for pronounced porosity, especially after bleaching.
Can porosity be got rid of?
Cosmetic care does not change hair permanently, but it regularly brings back smoothness, softness and shine.
Porous but fine hair — what then?
A rich base can weigh fine hair down. Consider Intensive Care with the BioHydra mask — the personal match will help you decide.
