Shampoo for dry hair and a dry scalp
“Dry hair” and “a dry scalp” are not the same thing, and the shampoo for each is chosen differently. Here is how to tell what exactly is dry, what to look for in a shampoo and why for dry lengths shampoo is only the first step.
What is dry: the scalp or the lengths
A dry scalp means tightness after washing, discomfort, sometimes fine flaking. The gentlest possible cleansing matters here.
Dry lengths mean roughness, dullness, frizz and tangling, while the roots may be normal or even get oily quickly. Here shampoo only cleanses; balsam, mask and thermo cream do the main work.
If there is itching, noticeable flaking, dandruff or redness, see a trichologist or dermatologist.
Which ORO system to choose
- Dry, sensitive scalp, daily washing — Soft Care Shampoo: a gentle sulfate-free formula with a prebiotic complex (inulin and alpha-glucan), botanical extracts, niacinamide and panthenol gently cleanses hair and scalp and suits daily use. Paired with Soft Care Balsam with plant proteins, jojoba oil and vitamins B3, B5, B6, E.
- Dry, porous, bleached, damaged lengths — Reconstruction PRO Shampoo and Balsam with a complex of 5 proteins and murumuru butter, 2–3 times a week. If you wash more often than every other day, use the shampoo as needed and the lighter Intensive Care Balsam on other washes.
- Roots get oily fast but lengths are dry — Intensive Care Shampoo for the scalp, balsam and mask on the lengths only.
What to add to the shampoo
- balsam after shampoo, from mid-length;
- a mask: BioHydra Therapy 1–2 times a week for moisture, Lipid & Protein Therapy once every 7–10 days for pronounced dryness;
- Active Thermo Cream before a hairdryer or hot tools;
- Argan Elixir Oil — a few drops on dry lengths after drying.
Step by step
- 01Wet hair with warm, not hot water.
- 02Apply a small amount of shampoo to the scalp and massage gently for 1–2 minutes.
- 03Rinse thoroughly; don’t rub the lengths.
- 04Balsam from mid-length for 2–3 minutes.
- 05A mask when needed — instead of “one more shampoo”.
- 06Active Thermo Cream before blow-drying, Argan Elixir Oil to finish.
Common misconceptions
- “Dry hair should be washed as rarely as possible” — wash as your scalp needs; care makes up for dry lengths.
- “A shampoo for dry hair must be very rich” — shampoo mainly cleanses the scalp; balsam and mask nourish the lengths.
- “Flaking always means dry skin” — dandruff and irritation need a specialist’s advice.
- “Hot water cleanses better” — it dries out both scalp and lengths.
